Matt Brown, a senior Broadcasting major at Northwest, spent the summer working as the production assistant for Fox Sports KC.
As production assistant, Matt was responsible for the required paper running throughout the Kansas City Royals stadium, including the packages that played during the pre-game show. He also edited and put together the tailgate “Tips of the Week” and helped shoot interviews with players.
“Northwest broadcasting classes eased me into the real world and taught me how things actually work,” said Matt. “When I got into a real position, there wasn’t much change, just minor adjusting.”
While working long hours for days and weeks on end with no pay is not the perfect situation, Matt feels that the connections and experience he gained were worth it in the end.
“Don’t pass up any opportunity. The more you show you are willing to do the less fun jobs, the more chances you get at something you want. Trust me, people notice.”
